now the switch is replaced and the headlights are still going on and off with out warning and now if i tap the signal light switch the light headlights flicker and go dim or cut off and cut back on..could this mean the signal light switch is bad because sometimes when i turn my signal on i hear a scratching sound as if a fuse is about to blow or something

Time for a high low beam switch. called a turnsignal combo switch.

Well the problem was not your headlight switch,did you check the high/low beam switch it's located about halfway down the column,it's only connection with the signal switch is byway of a steel rod that goes between the sig switch and beam selector.The other possibility is the daylight running light module that is giving you grief

it sounds like you need a multifunction switch. check recalls on that it maybe covered. some are. like on an explorer
