The only way to "slug-proof" a plant is to feed it a systemic insecticide - usually coupled with fertilizer - that literally turns the entire plant poisonous. It works, but that makes the plant toxic to all things that eat it...including kids, pets, birds, beneficial insects, etc. It also smells weird.

Diatomaceous earth, sometimes sold as the product "Concern" creates a barrier over which slimy creatures, ants, and beetles will not cross, so, yes D-earth works. It is non-toxic, unless you inhale a huge quantity of it.

Putting a copper wrap around the base of any plant will discourage snails and slugs. They won't climb up and over anything made of copper, but it won't kill them.

Salt repels but unless you salt them yourself, it won't kill them. And, salt is bad for the soil and, therefore, the plants.

I'm not a huge fan of the beer solution myself, but it does get some of them. It often misses smaller slugs, which can do a lot of damage. Also, wild animals and pets will drink the beer.

Hope that helps.

There are slug proof flowers?????

DE might work, but realize they slugs make their own slime to move around and may just slime right over the DE so it never affects them.

Drying out your garden helps, that is fewer plants, no groundcovers or low plants. Boring but it does reduce the buggers' numbers.

Since the eggs can remain for seasons as well as the adults....all wrapped up in their shell waiting for moisture, you'd have to have a Biblical drought to eliminate the eating machines.

If you aren't willing to use the baits which really do cut down the number, then consider the predator snails....Decollette..or something like that. Problem is once they eat all the brown garden snails, then they start eating your plants.

Kill as against no kill - ok you wanted an opinion, i think of that when you supply Io a canines you're able to be giving it as much as somebody which will quite attempt to place and has a checklist of putting canines in an excellent domicile that are continuously residences. So it very plenty relies upon on the breed of canines, age and situation that the animal is in. while you're giving up an 10 twelve months previous animal you're able to be truthful alongside with your self as to who will decide for the canines and place it interior the main suitable possibility it has to discover a sparkling domicile as long because it particularly is healthful. As for adopting i might advise that human beings who're searching for particular breed pass to a breed rescue as maximum breed rescue attempt extra thoroughly (word i stated maximum) There are in simple terms particular issues which would be regarded at while adopting an animal - the biggest is has it been temperament examined and what difficulty have the employer had with the animal as properly the previous vendors. Any respected place could have spay neuter contract if the animal isn't already fastened. those are subject to contemplate not basically stressful approximately no count if or not they're kill / no kill it is it is final subject i might difficulty approximately. Its approximately looking the the main suitable option canines the the main suitable option domicile.

try marigolds for a border and the safest way to deter slugs is a copper barrier, even the safest of slug baits are chemical based and can cause harm to pets

you can kill slugs by using salt. use regular everyday salt. just pore it over the slugs, and they will wither away and sorta melt. if the slugs are in the dirt, then you can use salt, but i wouldnt use the salt on the slugs that are actually on the flower.
