I am a recent high school graduate and I was thinking of majoring in pharmacy. I was wondering if any Pharmacists out there could tell me if I should and could do it. I've had good grades throughout high school and I am willing to study in college. I want to enter a health care career, but I don't like needles very much. I thought pharmacy would be an excellent health care career and I could make competitive wages.
I'm looking for a career where I wouldn't have to own my own business, and could possibly work part time if I had children, but could make it on my own if I didn't get married. I also want a job that's going to be exciting and challenging. Is Pharmacy for me?

I agree. While you are going to school, try to see if you can get a job as a Pharmacy Technician in a pharmacy. In that job you will be able to interact with and watch pharmacists at work.

These days Pharmacists rarely have to count pills. Most of the time they have scales and/or pharmacy techs that are licensed to do that part of the job. Pharmacists basically verify that the prescription was filled correctly and also counsel patients on any new medications and/or questions they have.

As far as being a good student in high school, it doesn't matter. It is definitely showing that you have the study skills to make it in college, but it does not indicate how you will perform in college...because college learning is so much different than high school.

I would suggest starting out a Pre-Pharmacy track at a local Community or Junior College. That way you can take lower level Chemistry classes that will transfer to a 4 year University, but will also give you a good reading on how you will do in the higher level Chemistry classes that you will have to take.

As far as a major, I would major in Chemistry or Biology, because these majors reflect a lot of the required Pharmacy coursework. However, it is not a mandatory thing that you need to major in a science to get into Phamracy School. I would recommend that you find a major that you enjoy, and then minor in Pre-Pharmacy Studies...so that you are sure to include Pharmacy school admissions requirements into your college curriculum.

I would be more than happy to help you out with advising or scheduling if you need it. Just email me and let me know what you need.

The pharmacists who work for the pharmaceutical companies are the ones who are rolling in the big bucks, same thing for the pharmaceutical researchers. While pharmacy is a growing career, keep in mind that most pharmacies are located in retail stores, so this means working retail hours and may not be your standard opening hours.

While you had good grades in high school, keep in mind that you will have to have lots of college level chemistry, biology, and mathematics, if you are not good at those subjects or do not like those sucjects, then pharmacy may not be the thing for you.

I suggest enrolling in a pharmacy technician program to see what exactly a pharmacist does, to see if this is something you really want to do. There are other health occupations that do not involve needles and you could investigate those also.

The study is pharmacology.
This is one of the few health careers where people don't
pee/puke/poop on you.
You must go to an undergraduate [ bachelor's ] program, and then a four year pharmacy program.
Most pharmacists don't own their own business. Many work part time [ usually an eight hour day ]. Some jobs are more exciting than others, like everything else.
You must take and be good at many science courses, and math. [ suppose the computer breaks down when you are preparing a prescription? ]

Clearly, you're a christian that has skilled the stupidity of a fellow chrisitan. You understand the change among the 2, so maybe you are fishing for distinctive responses. Even even though I am now not a believer of any religion I understand well and individuals of a number of one-of-a-kind faiths, or even of no religion. It all boils all the way down to the person, and the way that person is perceived can readily be included throughout all an identical individuals by means of individuals who're one-of-a-kind, be it religions, cultures, nationalities, epidermis colour, ethnicity, social or fiscal elegance, something.

Hi, I'm not a pharmacist, but my uncle was. Now he sells commercial real estate. He once told me that he got tired of basically counting pills all day. As far as wages, I think pharmacists earn a decent amount, and there are always drug stores and grocery stores who are looking for pharmacists so if you need part time work or flexible hours, you'd probably find that easily.
