The problem is that it is a very dark green, almost brown and it's been on this concrete for quite a few years.

I often used real Clorox and soap to clean the big stuff that I couldn't wash in the sink, and too dirty to wash in my tub. I wash them like there at my porch. It never kill my lawn, but instead the grass is growing better there. People seem to think soap and Clorox will kill the lawn. I don't see it. Real Clorox is works the best for cleaning anything, especailly something like that. I never try vinegar, and will try it sometime. However, I could imagine that it will cost more if you need to clean bigger area.

One of the newer product is Oxi Brands' O-2 Algae and Mold System, (800) 745-5186, www.oxibrands.com. You can get it at many hardware stores now. This is a two-step system, so make certain you buy both. Safe around plants.

Yes, I know it says mold, but works on moss too. Several older products are Farnum Moss & Mildew Remover, (888) 241-9547, or DeWitts Algae ‘N Moss Cleaner-Remover, (800) 962-8599. Both will clear up the problem in no time. Drench the surrounding grass before using the products as they aren't as kind.

Bleach is pretty hard on plants, but the vinegar might work. Another product is bluestone, coppersulfate. Once again beware around plants. A little is fine, but too much as your plants will croak.

Use vinegar! Pour it full strength over the moss. Let it work for five to 10 minutes, then scrub, rinse and let dry. If any green remains, reapply vinegar and don't rinse it off.

If there's still a problem, scrub with a mixture of 3/4 cup household chlorine bleach and a gallon of water. Let stand for 10 minutes, then rinse. Be careful the mixture doesn't leak onto plants -- it could hurt them -- and do this on a cloudy day, because the sun will cause the bleach to dry too quickly.

To prevent moss buildup, clean regularly with vinegar.
