To wait until all the adults are finished eating? Not on a special occasion but during the day to day dinner. Do you expect your 2 year old to do so and were you expected to do that at a young age?

I think a 2 year old could be expected to take a crap at the table.

I have a two year old and he is expected to eat at the table with the rest of the family, but I don't make him stay there until the adults are done. He isn't allowed to get up and run around between bites but he doesn't have to wait for everyone to get done. unless we are out at a restaurant and then when he is done eatting I bring books or his cars to keep him entertained until we are ready to leave. I will have him sitting longer as he grows older and by the age of 4-5 he will be sitting for a longer time period.

I had to wait until my parents and brother were done eating before I could leave the table....up until I was 18 that is.

When I had my son and he was finished eating and he wanted to leave the table I let him. I just can't see why anyone would want to sit at a table and listen to adults talk.

No, that's a bit too young to expect them to sit until everyone is finished. Their attention span is very short. You can do it for a few minutes and then do it longer and longer the older they get. Good luck.

No, the sooner they leave the table better. due to their shorter attention span.
Not until they're 4 or 5
I raise my kids how I see fit. I don't put kids through anything I truly believed unfair or not necessary as when I was a child.

No, I think that would be cruel to the 2 year old to do that-they are too young to understand, plenty of time to impart that lesson when they are old enough to grasp the meaning behind it.

You can start introducing that if it's important to you.

When my kids were little, they were fed before us, because that was easier for me.

Now, they take longer than me to eat and I end up leaving the table before them.

It really comes down to how you want to raise your child. He/She probably doesn't have the attention span or patience to wait, and I wouldn't enforce that one.

My 3 year olds do not wait but they usually do not finish first anyway....I just ask they ask to be excused and put their dishes in the sink.

I would think yes, you need to start as early as you can with rules if you expect them to actually follow them later.
