Department of Housing and Urban Development homes are very well regulated and brought up to Federal housing standards before being offered. These are homes that have been donated, seized, or otherwise obtained by the local HUD authority. Most of the work is done by volunteers however plumbing, electrical, and structural work as it pertains to safety must be performed by licensed contractors. Blue3Zoom knows what he's talking about. It would be nice if people would stick to what they know.
HUD homes are government homes that are worked on by volunteers, these people are former tradesmen like me, who give their time and efforts, to help their fellow man into homes they would not otherwise be able to own.

The people who are chosen to get these homes are required to help in any way they can, sometimes with older people that are handicapped and cannot help.

These tradesmen like I am, give efforts less help in many ways to help. their time, money and materials. They go by names like "Habitat for humanity" HUD" "Christmas in July" and other names, they all mean the same, help for your fellow man.

These homes meet all standards and are in most ways in better shape then homes thorough the area. They meet all standards and requirements and codes.

HUD = Housing and Urban Development. They're mostly small to medium sized apartments for poor people. They're usually built together on land leased by the federal government from a city. Blacks move into them and start smoking marijuana, selling crack, soliciting for prostitution, breaking windows, smashing furniture, urinating on the floor, shooting bullets through the roof, stashing shoplifted loot in the closets, spray painting gang graffiti on the brickwork, dumping garbage in the hallways, and so on. They're not defective at first, but because of the destructive behavior of their occupants they tend to become defective before long.

There are usually problems with HUD houses that must be repaired. Each one is different though.

No they are not defective, what it is... Is that you can get them at a cheaper price for doing repairs that they may need but like minor stuff, not a big deal though.
