I have an extremely light flow, and I've heard that if there's not enough blood, the tampon is harder to use. My period is very very light (I use pantiliners instead of pads) would it be a bad idea to try a tampon? (I've never tried one, I'm only 16.)

I suggest using a teen tampon- they're smaller and get the Light ones.

I don't suggest tampax though because they are longer than most pads and I found them very very uncomfortable.

Playtex makes good teen ones- the sport ones are my favourite however I'm not sure if they come in Light.

I know that pads/pantyliners are unpleasant but if your flow is very light you could be at risk for TSS which can be fatal.

You can try a tampon- that's really the only way to know.

Don't leave it in for over 8 hours. Most should be changed every 4 hours however with a light flow you could probably let it go for the 8.

when inserting don't forget to breathe! My friend use to always hold her breath and it would hurt more so relax!!!
It can take a few tries to get it right...you may want to put some lubrication on the applicator to make entry easier.

side note: my mom thinks I'm weird for using tampons and says they're gross, etc. However she doesn't know because she has never tried them. So what the woman above said I believe is true.

Yes they are safe, the chance of TSS is very very low, but it's good to be aware of. Just start with a lite tampon with your pantyliners on your heaviest days, but just use a panty liner on your lightest days and at night. Even if your flow is very lite you'll be ok with lite tampons as long as you change them every 6 hours... never go over 8 hours. I've been using them since I was 14, you're never going to know if you like them or not if you don't try them. I would say 95% of women who are against tampons have never even tried them!

If you wanted to you could try a slim sized one, but really if all you have to use is a panty liner, I wouldn't even bother if I were you. If you don't have enough moisture, the tampon CAN stick to the vaginal wall and cause extreme discomfort when you're trying to remove it. I would say only use a tampon if you're using a maxi pad.

You could try the lite flow tampons. I believe Tampax makes a smaller sized, lighter flow tampon that is more so designed for young women.

~I agree with using the panty liner. Your period isn't heavy enough for a tampon. If you leave it in too long, you can get sick, possibly even die. Read the box.
On heavy days, I suggest just using a thin maxi and the panty liners like you are.~

**BTW, OKWHATEVER, I'm an adult. I definitely know how to use a freakin tampon. Also, that name suits you well. =)

Hon, unless you're going to go swimming, there's really no need to use one yet. You're young, save all the mysteries for later.

There are very few problems with tampons. they are a bit less bulky and more comfortable than pads. If you can get by on liners for the time being, go for it, but you shouldn't have problems with tampons should you decide to use them.
