We couldn't figure out which breaker controlled the thermostat, so we took down the power to the entire house. The thermostat seems to be powered, everything else in the house works, but I've turned the AC to 73 and it still won't come on. Any ideas that are easy and safe, or do I need professional help?

try turning all the breakers off one at a time and turn them back on one at a time sometimes you can't tell if a breaker is tripped this is the easiest safest thing to do

Two issues. First if the system worked prior to power down, most likely you havent hooked the thermostate wires up to the board correctly. With not knowing the system U have, 2 wire or four wire Id be guessing. Go back and recheck the installation was wired right.

Next, if this is central air, you may have tripped the outside breaker at the compressor. Try resetting the one outside near the unit too. It;s possible, but unlikely that the transformer could have shorted for the thermostate too.

Good luck!!!!!!!!!

Either (1) there is another breaker that is off or tripped, or (2) you may have wired the thermostat wrong, or (3) the new thermostat is bad.

Try putting the old one back in. If it works, then you have eliminated # 1.

Does your AC have a reset button? You may have tripped an internal breaker in your AC unit when you turned off the power and then turned it back on. Hopefully you have some sort of manual for the unit and it can help you out. If not, call a repair guy.
