If you mean the football that every other country than America plays it is round and is kicked with the foot.
If you mean the football that only America plays (a less dangerous form of Rugby) then the ball is ellipsoid. In this game the ball is carried more than it is kicked.

Round.How the yanks can call what they play football is beyond me. They spend most of the time handling that rugby thingy, feet play a very Small part in that "game".

Well, if you are talking about american football, it would be (since I'm totally thinking about fruit right now) lemon shaped.
If you're not talking about "football" as we Americans call it, but soccer, then it would be orange shaped. (since I'm still thinking about fruit!) =)
