Let's face it evolutionists have no real idea how old the earth is. They base their conclusions on models and tests that they can't be sure are accurate to anywhere near 1 million years.

"The best-known absolute dating technique is carbon-14 dating, which archaeologists prefer to use. However, the half-life of carbon-14 is only 5730 years, so the method cannot be used for materials older than about 70,000 years. "

Because they don't really know, sort of like when one posts a question in a wrong category. Those that might know won't look here for it.

why dont you get a science text book out and read about other radiactive elements that are used for dating the things on this earth before asking your question like you have. The numbers are close if you consider human age is about 75 years and the earth is about 4.5 billion years. Rocks do tell the story of the age of the earth it is those who want to make up things that keep are young people from learning facts that can be proved.

Jev. Try really reading and understanding the position of those with whom you don't agree. It will give you a greater ability to debate. Right now all these silly suppositions you make make you sound like a sub-educated hick.

These 'evolutionists' you describe are not all one monolithic group (big word alert); geologists have a pretty good notion of the age of the earth, done by one set of computations. Cosmologists who study the mechanisms of planetary and stellar formation arrive at their figures by considering other factors, and coincidentally end up arriving at a very similar number.

The only people out there who have made up a number are 'creationists'; these people arrive at their number by applying analysis to one book, called the Old Testament. They can offer zero evidence derived from any other source that the earth is just a few thousand years old.

It makes absolutely no sense that the earth is only six thousand years old. It begs hundred of questions, not the least of which is how do sedimentary deposits as huge as the grand canyon form in such a short time.

I fear for a world in which peasants with pitchforks come to burn the scientists. Get real, or go live away from the civilization that has taken some 20,000 years to form around you.

You are correct about Carbon dating and the relatively short half-life. Carbon dating is used for items 10,000 years old or younger. Uranium - Lead dating is used to estimate very old samples. The decay of Uranium isotopes to Lead isotopes has a very long half-life and allows estmates of previously undisturbed samples to roughly 4.55 billion years ago. These estimates have an error of roughly 1% so it's 4.55 billion plus or minus 46 million years.

Are you kidding me?
Let's face it, Christians don't know what the hell they are talking about.
You believe in a supernatural being, and that the Earth is 6,000 years old? And you are telling me that my scientific evidence is wrong? I can pick up a rock on the top of a mountain with fossils of sea creatures in it. There's your million years. It has been scientifically proven that the Earth is more than 4 billion years old.
Your 'Evolutionists' are the only people on this planet that have a damn clue what is going on. Everyone else, like you, is brainwashed into believing age-old books that have no logical and scientific value whatsoever.
Go read a text book...please.
It's not too late to gain some intelligence before you die.

NONE of this has to do with evolution. Evolution was proven many decades ago with fossil cataloguing, as it became totally clear that the older the strata the fossils were found in, the simpler were the fossilized remains.

Evolution is scientific FACT, not theory.

But it's HILARIOUS to watch the bone-ignorant, pseudo-Christian RRR-Cult losers ruunning around making such total fools of themselves. They comprise only 5% of the population, and most of the rest of America recognizes that cult as our National Laugingstock. Just as the equally-moronic and bigoted segregationists were, just before THIER loathsome and anti-social agendas went down the Drain of Extinction forever.

I'm a Christian believer, and I marvel at the vastness and complexity of the universe God created... and the phenomenal evolutionary process that He ALSO doubtlessly created.

You see, MY God is intelligent, omniscient, and omnipotent enough to do that. Too bad about yours.

They have no idea until they come to understand that God created the heaven's and the earth and everything in them roughly 6000 years ago. To believe that God doesn't exist and didn't create the earth only makes that person an unbelieving fool.

It seems that every time an evolutionist gives an answer on the earths age, the answer varies greatly. Some say 4.5 billion, other say 30 million. As time goes by, they just keep adding more years to the number to help fool themselves into disbelief in and almighty power, GOD. The moment they believe God created everything they must submit to the fact that they have to answer to Him for every thought, word and deed. Believers like myself realize that the answer to that is Jesus Christ already paid for my wrongful thoughts, words, and deeds. Thank you LORD!

no one knows how old earth really is or how long humans have existed. there is no absolute involved, carbon dating is a theoretically based means of time measurement that can not be proved as fact, and the bible is not specific in timing.

Atheists, It says God created the Earth in 6 days and the 7th he rested. Now are those days, what Moses who wrote the Torah to be 6 earth days or 6 days in accordance to what God interrprets 6 days, but remember Moses wrote the Torah and may interpret 6 to 6 earth days.

They do know how old the Earth is.

Carbon dating is used to determine the age of anything that once contained carbon.

Carbon degrades at a very predictable and constant pace, making carbon dating very accurate.

Hvaing no actual records available, science seeks new and better ways to measure the age of the Earth. They are not simply making up numbers.
