The transformer goes to the common terminal. One wire from the front door button goes to one of the other terminals. One wire from the back door button goes to the remaining terminal. The other wire from each door button goes to the other side of the transformer. The two heavy wires on the transformer go to your AC line wires.

If you don't like which sound comes with each door button then swap the wires from the two doorbells that are at the bell so that the sound makers are swapped.

It is that easy.

Both of the above answers are incorrect.

The two black wires of the transformer must be connected to a 110 volt circuit, one black to the black of the circuit and one black to the white of the circuit. (There is no need to be concerned about polarity, although the transformer has a means to fasten it to a metal electrical outlet box.)

The other three terminals on the transformer is the low voltage side of transformer and that is the voltage used to operate the chime. (24 volts, normally).

The center terminal is always the common and two low voltage wires are run, one pair to the front door and one pair to the rear door.

A low voltage three wire is run from the bell to the transformer, the white wire to the center terminal on the bell, and the black wire to one other terminal and the red wire to the remaining terminal.of the bell. That is because on a two tone bell, the front door rings two notes and the back door rings one note. The doorbell should have the letters F C R stamped next to the terminals.

Back at the transformer,.the white wire from the bell goes on the center, or common terminal . The black wire of the two wire to the front door goes on one of the outter terminals of the transformer, it's white wire gets spliced onto the black or red wire from the bell, and the same thing is done with the wires going to the rear door.

Install the bell buttons. If the front door rings only one chime, reverse the red and black wires at the bell.

Good luck.

120v to the two black wires on the transformer. 2-conductor bell wire from the transformer to the chime, from the chime to the front button, from the chime to the rear button.

Connect the red and white to the terminal screws on the transformer.

At the chime, attach the white from the xfmr to the center terminal of the chime. Wirenut the red from the xfmr to the whites going to the door buttons. Connect the front button red to the 'FRONT' teminal on the chime. Connect the rear button red to the 'REAR' terminal on the chime.

You didn't mention the two input wires of the transformer as they must go to the 110vac.
One of the outputs of the transformer goes to the pushbutton outside the door, (which closes the circuit to the bell when pressed) and the second wire from the pushbutton goes to the bell.
The other output of the transformer goes directly to the bell.
