Whats on 6th street? Whats NOT on 6th street. Bars, bars, bars & more bars, and all have a live band. Just try not to wander over to 4th street if you can help it. The bars look like the Blue Oyster from Police Acadamy, or the Man Hole and Greasy Pole from The Ambigulously Gay Duo. If you do go to 4th street, go to Oil Can Harry's and tell them Ron says hi....(inside joke, got a few friends that live in Austin and Ron is the BUTT end of all jokes, sorry) Austin has more hot women that any other city I have ever been to, LA, Vegas, SF, NY, DC, Miami, anywhere. UT has got some smoking hot chick and they outnumber the guys almost 2:1. There is a reason Austin is a cranking party town.

6th Street is the heart of the entertainment district in downtown Austin. From IH-35 to Congress Ave., you will find many clubs, bars and resturants. West of Congress on 6th street there are many upscale resturants, casual hangouts, the Whole Foods flagship store and Waterloo records.

The Driskell Hotel, bars, comedy clubs, restaurants, dives, lots of people (usually young), tacky stores, bars, Leslie (homeless cross dresser who ran for mayor, that hangs out on 6th Street and Congress Ave. He usually wears a bikini and never shaves his beard), lots of music, mystery tours, horse drawn carriages, and did I mention bars? This is the first place most visitors head for when visiting Austin for the first time since the live music allow you to hear so many bands both famous and unknown on the same few blocks.

Crime is increasing rapidly downtown. Being out of there by 9 is going to be your best bet though. Besides, there is a curfew for anyone under 18 in that area shortly after that. There are police downtown, but they can't watch everything. The latest thing on 6th is the "punch and run". People randomly running up to strangers, punching them in the face, then running away. You do not want to get caught up in that. Have your mom drop you off in front of Emo's, then pick you up right there too.
