What does RAM have to do with the hard drive? I currently have 894mb of RAM on my desktop computer running Vista. Do you think I should upgrade? And if so 2GB or 4GB?

RAM has nothing to do with the hard drive, other than you typically want to have a larger page file configured, the more memory you have.

With vista, it is my understanding that you can't have too much RAM. 2GB would be good to have. 4GB if you are an extreme power user.

RAM is separate from the Hard Drive. A Hard Drive is a device designed for the long term storage of data on your computer. RAM holds data that is in use for the faster operation of your computer. (RAM will loose all of the information when the computer is powered down.) So, when you are working on your computer, the computer will transfer data from the Hard Drive to the RAM for quick and easy access. If the computer needs more data than the RAM can hold, it will pull it directly off the Hard Drive, but this will cause obvious and noticeable lag and delays.

I would suggest that you upgrade to at least 2GB for Vista. However, as I am a gamer, I would personally look to upgrade it to 4GB.

I would also suggest that you use Dual Channel memory. This requires two sticks of memory. (IE: If you are upgrading to 2GB, you would get two 1GB sticks of Dual Channel memory.) This is faster memory due to the fact that you have two sets of memory working on the same process, for all intents and purposes.

Hard drive and ram have almost nothing to do with each other, but vista and ram do.

Vista is very cpu and graphics intensive (and most of the time thats not a good thing). If you want vista to run smoothly you need a minimum of 2gb of RAM, and that is if you are using the lowest settings.

If you are useing Vista premium or ultimate with everything turned on, the 4gb will help.

You still need a small amount of RAM for your HDDs. Also you need at least 1GB of RAM to run Windows Vista. But if your a gamer than upgrade to 2GB or if you want lots of proformance 4GB. You can never have too much RAM.

RAM doesnt have hardly anything to do with the hard drive. everything has to run through RAM before it runs. vista is a resource hog. it takes 512mb of RAM JUST for the OS to run!. i would get at least 2GB

the hard drive is damn slow. RAM is way faster. processor is the fastest. the RAM acts as a buffer between the HD and processor. if RAM is not big enough to contain all the files required to run something, like a game, it will lag.

RAM. RandomAccessMemory, works inconjunction with your processor. I thought Vista required 2GB in order to function properly.
