I disagree. I think the hippie culture played a large part in the break down of family values. Yes, I have some personal issues here. Any group of people who are so into "expanding their minds", sure didn't look at the side of any soldier serving in Vietnam or what their permissive sexual lives were doing to the childen around them.

Wrong--we misinterpreted the meaning of love/peace/and the sometimes necessity of war. The hippies became a selfish movement, started in rebellion against perceived hypocrisy--but it didn't accomplish it's goals (was muddy about them to begin with) and in the end weakened the structure of American justice and of American honor.

We are culpable to the generations which have followed.

Disagree. How far have we come? They (the hippie generation) is starting to retire this year (they are beginning to turn 65). How many of them are still preaching the same stuff? Not many, but they'll be free-loving the rest of social security. Me? (gen-xer), I'll be working until I'm dead. Peace man.

that dependsd on what they're right about. If they were riht about free love and the overthrowing of social conformities, then yes, they were right. If you're talking about how many treated veterans, then they were wrong. Many of their ideals and thoughts still apply today about following nature, going back to your roots, thinking for yourself, etc. I agree with their philosophies, not all their actions.
