This question is right up my alley. I adore Vampire stories of all kinds! Most are available free to loan at your local library!

I have a love for funny/romantic vamp stories so 1st here's a list of some of those!

MaryJanice Davidson (Undead series1-7)
Erin McCarthy (Bled Dry & others)

Maggie Shayne
(she has other books besides the twilight series)
Christine Feehan (her Carpathian series)
Angela Knight ( Master of the Night)
Charlie Huston
Charlaine Haris (Southern Vamp. series)
Marta Acosta
Alex Duval
Ellen Schreiber (vampire kisses series)
Lynsay Sands

Sorry so long I know there are even more I haven't thought of here. Have a great time reading!!

Ok, you're in my genre here.... I love vampire books, but not just cheap dime store ones too.

Some of my personal favorites are the Last Vampire series by Christopher Pike. (1- The Last Vampire; 2- Black Blood; 3- Red Dice; 4- Phantom; 5- Evil Thirst; 6- Creatures of Forever) Although these are young adult novels, they are the books that first turned me on the vampire lore, and as such, are amazing no matter what, and are my first recomendation to any vampire enthusiast. Also Seasons of Passage by Christopher Pike, a novel about martian explorers who become vampires.

And also Lilith's Dream: A Tale of the Vampire Life by Whitley Strieber. Maybe a little different, but still a very good book.

Of course Anne Rice, but not just the Interview with the Vampire series, also the Witches of Mayfair.

But if you want new, lesser known material, go to any bookstore or library, and get an anthology of vampire short fiction, find an author you particularly like, and check out their other works.... Thats my best recomendation, and hope it helps...

Salem's Lot - Stephen King. While I'm not a huge King fan - I think he "over writes" sometimes and turns out a lot of mediocre stuff - I do like this early one about the takeover of a New England village by vampires. Also like Dolores Claiborne. Good movies made of both.

Interview With the Vampire and The Vampire Lestat - Anne Rice. Again, I'm not a huge Rice fan, my feelings being much the same about her as King. But these two books are gems.

I Am Legend - Richard Matheson. About a half century old short novel. Matheson was a very good writer who greatly influenced King. Several of his stories were used on the original Twilight Zone TV series in the late 50's & early 60's.

Dracula - Bram Stoker. The original classic vampire novel. The writing style may seem a little stilted & dated for a lot of modern readers - but not me!

I also enjoy vampire books. Try reading Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter books. They are romances though but once you start reading them they are hard to put down. Christine Feehan also writes paranormal romances dealing with vampires. Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake Series are GREAT !!!!!!!!!
I recently discovered Charlaine Harris's Sookie Stackhouse series. Unbelievably good.
Whitley Striber's - The Hunger- The Last Vampire- and Lilith's Dream are wonderful to read.
Anne Rice's- Interview with a Vampire- The Vampire Lestat- Queen of the Dammned
Elizabeth Kostivina's - The Historian
Another good series that deals with paranormal themes is Kelley Armstrong's Women of the Other World Series.
Good Luck and Happy Reading : )

I loved Peeps! Not only did it have great, relatable chracters, but the plot was so amazingly clever that it always had me thinking. I learned so many cool, yet gross, facts from this book, too. I must admit, though, that the term 'vampire' is loosely used. If you are looking for a traditional vampire book this isnt it. Its not so much a fantasy as a sci-fi. But it was really good! Even non sci-fi fans will like it. READ IT!

Of course I know of a really good book. Amazing actually. The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. So, you see, Charlie is a freshman. Not at all popular, shy, and unsocial (hence 'wallflower'). He writes in letter form to someone with an unmetioned name. Basically the book revolves around Charlie attempting to become a part of life by experimenting. Many people compare it The Catcher in the Rye. Overall it's the best book I've ever read, and I suggest you read it sometime.

Vampire books
(eek! Can you believe the new Twilight book comes out in August?!)
1. Interview With A Vampire by Ann Rice
2. Peeps by Scott Westerfeld (if you like it, read Uglies by the same author)
Hmmm..that's it. My vamp knowledge is seriously lacking.
Others:
Just great books.
General fiction:
1.The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver
2. My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult
3.Memoirs of a Geisha by William Golden (great book)
4. The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zaffon
Romance:
1. The Time Traveller's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger (it's romance and I like it, so it must be good!)
Fantasy:
1. Monstrous Regiment by Terry Pratchett or Mort by Terry Pratchett (My favorite english author of all time. Seriously funny)
2. The Princess Bride by/abridged by: William Goldman originally by S. Morgenstern (very strange book. Read it keeping in mind that there is no such person as S. Morgenstern, Goldman made him up.)
Science Fiction:
I normally hate sci-fi, but these are very good.
1. Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card
2. Feed by M. T. Anderson
3. 1984 by George Orwell (can't beat the classics-one of my favorite books of all time)
Historical (hey now, give it a chance):
1. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak (great writing)
Truly original:
1. House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski (truly strange)
Hope you find something you like!

The Night of the Moonbow - Thomas Tyron
It's a horror novel. It doesn't deal with mythical characters or the supernatural. Instead, it simply shows how human nature can turn distorted into beastly and inhuman creatures.
It takes place in a boys' summer camp in the 1930s where all is seemingly wonderful, until that one different boy comes to stay. Some people can't deal with what is different...

Not many people that I know like it, but the Artemis Fowl series by Eoin Colfer is my favorite series period. The entire series is about how a twelve-year-old Irish genious and his bodyguard kipnap and later befriend an elf. It sounds stupid, but is awesome.
You might like Magic or Madness, can't remember the author. It's about a half-Aboriginese girl named Reason whose mother goes crazy, so she is sent to live with her grandmother in Sidney. The thing is, according to her mother (when she wasn't mad), Reason's grandmother thinks that she is a WITCH. (This book has quite a few curse words.)
