There was someone named Vagina pronounced Vuh-Jeenah that I used to fill prescriptions for. The poor girl was always so embarrassed to sign her name to anything and it makes for a nightmare if you're the person looking for their medication. For example, say you're the technician at a pharmacy. Ms. Crawford comes to the counter and says "I'd like to pick up prescriptions for Crawford." you say "ok" and you go through the baskets and see something for Vagina Crawford and you turn to Ms. Crawford and say "for Vagina Crawford?" They correct your pronunciation but say you have the right person while they're looking extremely embarassed about their name.

For situations like these, they need to think of another name for that child. The poor child has to grow up with that name and she will be made fun of by the lowest of the low.

Hopefully they notice what they're doing. Explain to them how you feel, and about how much you care about this child. Let them know that the spelling choice is obviously lacking judgement, and the problems and ridicule that could result. Nobody is going to know to pronounce the name Vuh- Jeenah when it is spelled Vagina. Obviously there will be some teasing and mocking later in life for this child and the parents. Suggest these spelling alternatives:

Vajeena
Vajina
Vageena
Vajeana
Vajeenah
Vageenah

Even with the spelling alternatives, this name is still really pushing it. Maybe suggest Virginia. It is much prettier and won't result in problems. If the couple is really set on naming their child Vagina, maybe offer middle name ideas. That way, if they realize that the name is going to be a disaster, they can turn to calling the child by the middle name without any major actions. Just be sensitive and loving about their choice. Show that you are concerned, not disgusted (even though you might be!)

poor child do these parents not realize the child has to go to school, and that they'll have to write that name on every single application form for the rest of their life???? Well if i were you i'd help the child legally change their name as soon as they are old enough.... Thats the worse name I've heard of the second worse is LOKI (yes i know someone with that name) Good luck and I hope the child ends up in the witness protection program :S

Yale University did a study 4 years ago that determined: "children who are given odd names like Chastity, et al. drop out of their freshman year in college at such a high rate that most colleges and universities think twice (long and hard) before allowing them admittance"

Oh my! That poor baby girl. Talk her into Virginia as quick as you can, cause the is a lot prettier or give her a different spelling such as Vajena. Vigina will not do.

I think it's very unlikely that someone is going to name their child vagina.. But with all the weirdos out their now a days you never know. As bad as their decision is there is'nt much you can do. Tell them how you feel. In the end It's their decisions just call her va-jay-jay for short

I think that's quite unfair of your friends. If you're really so close to them, maybe talk to the mother about it. Just tell her your opinion and maybe help her see what a bad idea that is. Especially in today's society. Gawd.

Go to the library with your pregnant friend and show her the word vagina in a human anatomy book. Then ask her if that is what she wants her daughter to be associated with her entire life...

Tell her that kids are cruel to other kids, even when the kids name isn't VAGINA!

Child abuse.

Maybe suggest a different spelling? Do they realize how their spelling looks? If they are set on that naem and spelling then all you can do is be supportive of their decision. No matter how much you don't like it.
