It is at this point absolutely impossible for my partner and i to have sex in order to try and induce labor. Will it work the same way if he ejaculates in his hand and manually places the semen on my cervix, of course if it works at all.

Not to put a damper on anything, but 40 weeks is just an average full-term pregnancy. Delivering sometime between 38-42 weeks is considered normal. It is common for the last few weeks of a pregnancy to seem to last forever. I have 4 children and all were born past their due dates. There is only questionable evidence that having sex can trigger labor. If your body and your baby are ready, the hormone prostoglandin, which is found naturally in semen, may help to soften your cervix. Additionally, an orgasm does cause contraction of the uterus and may trigger contractions if you are ready to go into labor anyway. Because ejaculation has the force to move the semen up into the vagina towards the cervix, it has a much better chance of reaching the cervix than inserting a finger with semen on it into the vaginal opening. Your cervix is the bottom section of your uterus so it would require your husband to put enough semen on his finger and insert it into your vagina far enough to reach your cervix. A fair amount will likely rub off on your pubic hair and against your vaginal opening and not much will actually reach the intended area. Here are a couple websites from reliable sources about using sex to induce labor. For me, having sex did not induce any of my labors.

I guess this could work if the baby is ready. But, I think it would help if possibly you had him put the semen on your cervix and then make you have an orgasm. I heard that sex only helps induce labor if you have an orgasm plus the semen as well. And also walking is another great trick. Lots of it.

OH GOSH I can't believe you asked this but I will answer the question anyway. Remember you can have sex up until the time of birth but you need to be careful that you don't harm yourself trying any funny positions. If you need your labor induce they always say walking is the best remedy.

It's more the act of sex, then the semen. How far along are you? Are you sure it's ok for you to be trying to go into labor? If you are, a good position for sex when you are that far along is with your partner behind you... like your spooning. It worked for me :)

I think the induction of labor is caused by the act of sex not just from the semen.

Absolutely, you can have sex if your bag of waters is still in tact. Just know it might not work. At least you'll have a little fun trying, even if it doesn't.
