SAMA = The most respectful and polite level of ending to one's first and / or last name. Often used in writing in a business letter addressed to male or female clients. John Sama = Mr. or Sir. John Donna Lloyd Sama = Ms. Donna Lloyd Smith Sama = Mr. or Sir. Smith Also, it is used with a pronoun or one's title Anatasama = You (with the most respect) Tonosama = King (with the most respect) CAUTION: The level of respect is very high. Therefore, if you use this when you call your parents, they might think that you are too formal and about to give them an official announcement such as moving out or getting married. CHAN = is attached to a younger girl's first name most of the time. Amy is 4. So her parents and older brother and sister call her Amy Chan. You can also attach it to your close female friend's name. Tina is 17 and she calls her best friends Julie Chan and Nancy Chan. Sometimes, Kun is more appropriate for male children. However, if they are young and other people around him calls him Alex Chan, it is OK. Also, you hear a mommy's boy is called his name with this ending by his mother no matter what the child age is. CAUTION: If you use this to a male adult who are not your buddy, you will offend him for sure. Unless, your entire town knows you are funny. There is a word "San." It is very general and less complicated. You might want to get some info about this as well. Good luck!

They are honorifics used at japan. They represent a level of respect for a person.
You refer to someone with great status as -sama. Think of Jaken calling Sesshomaru-sama
The -kun and -chan are for people you consider close but not at that personal level.

In mangas, they just add those endings to show respect to the person. They don't really mean anything.
Chan- Referring to a girl
Kun- Referring to a boy.
I don't know what sama goes after.

chan is an suffix for someones name, them being something really cute or girly, usually they are girls but they can also be used on guys and pets. I've seen them do it in animes.
Kun is a suffix used to casually call one of your friends, mostly used on boys. But this suffix is also used to call someone formally but slightly less formally than using san. usually teachers used this suffix on their students. both boy and girl. they use it other places also.
sama practically means someone highly respected. Like lords or masters. But some fan girls will use this suffix to address the prince of there fan club. This suffix is also used when addressing someone who is very rich and respected.
these aren't the only suffix out there.
dono, kaichou, pyon, keibu, shishou, sensei, san, oniichan, oneechan,
are also some others that i heard of
