I would go with your heart. Buy something that you would like to receive yourself for your new baby. More personal than a gift certificate.. (easier to if you know the sex of the baby). I went to my first baby shower a couple of months ago and bought a couple of cute outfits.. (different sizes too) not all for newborns.. They went over eally well. good luck

"Tangibles" like clothes, bottles, diapers, wipes, toys, furniture etc. are all great gifts, but the best baby shower gift would be the gift of time, especially if the expected child is the first.

No matter how prepared you think you are, most parents are not actually prepared for how much their time a baby needs.

Offer to baby sit so the new mom and dad can take a nap in the middle of the day, or to go with new mom when she is taking baby for checkups. In the first 6 months an infant will go to the Dr.'s about 5 times, if they are healthy. Trying to manage baby, diaper bag, purse, blanket and so on can be very difficult with only two hands.

Another idea would be to make and freeze a couple of casseroles or other types of meals so the new parents don't have to do a lot of cooking when they are adapting to having the new baby at home.

receiving blankets, a person could always use more no matter how many they get. or get diapers, but get size 2 or 3, because most people buy size 1 and the mother-to-be ends up with too many to use. everyone needs baby wipes. try checking the registry and see what the person is wanting and see if there is anything in your price range. Also for my son everyone bought me so much soap and lotions and shampoos that I didnt have to buy any for a year which was really nice!

theres a few ideas...hope I helps :)

well i would get something useful maybe cute outfit or something. but if you want, ask her if she really NEEDS anything b/c many times people end up with just useless stuff at baby showers, check also to see if she is registered at any baby stores.... thats always easy
