There was a remake of Nosferatu the Vampyre, in the late 1970's. It wasn't blood and guts, but very good. A pleasant horror film, one that won't give you nightmares.

Also, Dracula was remade in the late 1970's as well, and again, good, not too gory, and not nightmarish. And...... Carry On Screaming. A good old comedy horror.

The Night of the Demon is also good, based on MR James' story Casting The Runes. And, there is also The House On The Haunted Hill, The Devil Rides Out, and quite a few others.

The original Halloween film is brilliant.

These are all quite old classic films, watchable, and not gory purely for the sake of it.

There are allot of good films above me and a couple that are just crap (American Haunting, big pile of poo).
So I'll just suggest two. If you're into slasher films try
Haute Tension (France)
Switchblade Romance (UK)
High Tension (USA)

be warned though this film is very graphic and quite disturbing and will not be to most people's taste. Definitely not one to let the kids watch.
If you're into something lighter but still quite heavy on the gore, watch (The Descent) again probably not to everyones taste but deffinately worth a look. I'm not going to post a link to this one because I think it's better to watch it without any preconceptions.

The Hunger - with David Bowie, Susan Sarandon and the gorgeous, sexy, immensely f***able Catherine Deneuvre.

Lots of 'em. Japanese horrors are awesome. You can go old school with the classics like The Exorcist. I also liked Darkness Falls a lot because of the story behind it and watching people jump.
