September 1 1939 Germany invades Poland.
September 3 1939 France and Britain declare war on Germany
June 1940 France defeated by Germany, Britain retreats from France.
June 1941 Germany invades the Soviet Union.
December 1941 Japan attacks the American fleet at Pearl Harbor, Germany declares war on the USA
October 1942 Britain defeats Germany at El Alamein and drive the Germans out of N. Africa
February 1943 Germans defeated by Soviets at Stalingrad and start the long retreat from Russia.
September 1943 Italy defeated by British and US forces and joins the Allies.
June 6 1944 The invasion of Normandy by the British, Canadian , US and Free French Forces to start the defeat of Germany from the West.
May 8 1945 end of the war in Europe.
August 1945 USA drops two Atomic bombs on Japan and Japan surrenders.
