(x)/(3)-(1)/(4) = (3x-8)/(12)
( 4x - 3 ) / 12 = (3x - 8)/12
4x - 3 = 3x - 8
x = -5.

x/3 - 1/4 = (3x-8)/12

Multiply all items by 12 --- (x/3)*12 - (1/4)*12 = 3x-8
or ---- 12x/3 -12/4 = 3x-8

Divide out the fractions ---- 4x-3 = 3x-8

Isolate x by adding 3 to both sides of the equation and subtracting 3x from each side of the equation.

4x = 3x-5
4x-3x = -5
x = -5
