Actually you need to supply a little more information to get a good answer. How far do you tilt the mower? Which way do you tilt it (to the carburetter side or other)?
Have you tried fresh petrol in your tank? Have you tried a new plug? If this is an older mower, maybe the diaphragm in the carb is clogged or even defective. Is this a push mower or a rider ( a rider has different intake setup). Hope I gave you some ideas at which to look.

You probably have oil in the filter and carb after tilting it. I always tilt opposite of the muffler. You have a valve port that oil will come out and run into the muffler and it also can run through the line leading to your carb in most brands.
So the easiest solution is to remove the filter and spark plug and pull it a few times to clean it out and then put the plug back in and crank it up. It will smoke like dickens, but it will stop once all the oil is burned out.

this used to happen to me last year. It would stall going uphill but not down. It was the float in the carburator. I replaced the leaky float and it worked fine. The float controls the flow of fuel into the carb.

A rebuild kit is about $20 or so. Your mower shop can proably do it for $45 or so.

Some small engines have a low oil shutdown feature. If you tilt the mower, then the sensor thinks the oil level got low. Shuts itself off.

Most likely you got oil on the air filter. You should always tip the mower with the airfilter/carburator up. Remove the air filter and see if that helps. Check to see if it has oil on it. If it runs without it, replace the filter.

you probably clogged the air filter try to replace that and see what happens. Also check to see if any gas is mixing with the oil, just smell the oil you will be able to tell
