When I was a kid, year 2000 was depicted with cars flying around our city skyscrapers and bases on Mars.
Neither happened. But what did happen that nobody predicted is what we are doing now.
Also, the lastest cell phones are micro-computers - that sophistication was never envisaged.
The point is that you cannot always extrapolate what you have currently into the future. Technology takes twists and turns, and is very much at the mercy of economics and the marketers.
e.g. with the intro of Concorde in early 70's, one would have thought that by 2000 airliners would be flying mach 5, and you would fly from London to Sydney in 2 hours. Instead, Concorde is scrapped, and there is no current supersonic airliners. Instead we have super-Jumbos, and everyday people can afford to fly around the world, albeit very uncomfortably. Planes got bigger instead of faster.

The biggest problem I see is that of energy. In a world of ever increasing energy usage, combined with concerns of global warming, the feat of defying gravity seems wasteful. Robots roaming the planet will not happen until artificial intelligence is a feat accomplished. There are many that hope it never happens, but it is coming.

Flying cars on a vast scale would take a greatly expanded air traffic control network.
Robots can now dance, maybe in ten-fifteen years there will be household robots if the energy problem is solved.

We wont have flying cars in our life time. We already have robots roaming our living rooms with a vacuum cleaner.

the first poster is right we have flying cars (Skycar) and robots all over (any factories and especially ASIMO), but in the way you are talking, most likely not for quite some time
