Most likely he saw a calf getting nurishment and decided that work for him as well. I am sure man was familiar with the natural process of mothers breast feeding children and figured that applied to other animals as well.

None of these answers is serious so maybe the question isn't either. Anyway, the answer is that all mammals dribble milk when they have young to feed and in cattle it can really pour out sometimes if a calf dies or is not hungry. Even a belligerent cow is glad to have her milk "expressed" to relieve the pressure, once you have her head restrained. It wouldn't take a prehistoric rocket scientist long to figure that out.

It probably didn't start with cows. Goats and sheep and camels were milked thousands of years before cows were used for that purpose. Mongolians even milk their horses.

completely not into milk....don't find it normal to "suckle" from another animal.....strange....but I'm going with the observation thing...it was probably pretty obvious and someone was probably really hungry, however its funnier to think that they were having some cross species orgy.

Probably watching a calf drink of its mother's udder, then also realizing that humans also drink from their mother's breasts and thinking "hmmm...I bet that would be nutritious."
