What makes you think this is something new? Study some history, reference J. Edgar Hoover and FBI?CIA practices. Had any friends investigated by the police? You can be held without proof in a lock up while they check things out. Law states a time yet is not enforced. Enter your house without a warrant. Hit you if you look away?
I can not say any of this is right. It has been a violation of our civil liberties for many. many years. The Patriot act keeps the loopholes expensive lawyers use to remove bad guys from jail where they may actually belong. That's from my personal experience and we have been at the mercy of all these agencies right under your noses.
When they start asking races to place a star on their clothing or kill people on the streets then you will have issue with the agencies you mentioned. Sorry, it is not happening here. Thanks.

I'm soooooooo tired of the bs about "illegal wiretaps". The only calls that are monitored are ones that originate from known or suspected terrorists. I don't have to worry about wiretaps because no one I know is a terrorist. You phone calls have been monitored for 40years. No one thinks about it because only certain words or phrases are flagged (threatening the President or terrorist threats). I would dare say that 95% of the people complaining about the Patriot Act have never been monitored, or have lost no civil liberties. Get over it people. In the weeks following 9-11, the left excoriated Pres Bush for not doing enough to stop terrorism, now he's trying to stop it and the left is screaming your taking away our rights. Whats the guy supposed to do? No matter what he does, the left will rip him a new one. What would any of you who are complaining about the Patriot Act do to keep terrorists from attacking again? I hear lots of complaining but no alternatives

I cant think of any rationally thinking human being on the face of the planet who would be proud of anything Bush has done. He has done more damage to our great country and people than any president EVER and it will take the next several presidents to dig us of this embarrassing hole he has sunk us into. I am seriously ashamed of not only Bush, but of those out there who were stupid enough to put him in office a second term!

I am sure they are jealous they didn't do it first! This brings to light what a police state we really are in! They wont stop till they have total control of our lives from cradle to grave as their slaves! That is for the ones they even let live! If you are too much trouble you will be shipped off to a FEMA consentration camp and probably find out first hand if they really are building gas chambers in places like Beach Grove In.

Yes, they would be proud! All of the right wingers above have not been paying attention, the F.B.I. is already admitting to over stepping the bounds of The unPatriot Act.

I think that he is trying to do something that 40% of the population wanted. Not the majority. He is just making everyone not like it since 60% are talking about how horrible it is. Now only 10% want it.

Did you know the little fact that the only US Senator to vote against the act was Senator Russ Feingold? The ONLY ONE! Wow! How many voted at the time and only ONE voted no?!

I think they would be jealous they didn't do it first. Bush has become a beastly dictator! We're living in a police state and it's only going to get worse.

completely two different things you idiot. The KGB and Gestapo were designed and ran to prevent a overthrow of the dictators who ran them, unlike the patriot act is designed to keep murdering terroist from blowing up a nuke in your backyard and to monitor suspected terroist from cutting your throats. And again unlike hitler/stalin, bush was voted in as president twice, and the last poll I saw was 60% approve of the act, only terroist and people who hide kiddi porn on their computers dislike it.
