She is deputy headmistress after all, and she seems to be close to Dumbledore. When he died she also seemed upset. I think they are/were a great couple. Didn't they dance together at the Yule ball? I don't know. What do you all think.

I think that they had a very close friendship, but I dont think anything actually happened between them. Dumbledore is/was a very polite and sweet wizard, Im sure all of us HP fans will miss him.But yes they would have made a good couple, and yes they did dance together and they did look cute dancin. :)

I don't mean to sound vulgar, but the idea of MacGonagall and Dumbledore as a romantic couple is a little too much like imagining my own parents having sex. I know they did it, I know they did it a lot, and I know they liked it, BUT I DON'T WANT TO THINK ABOUT IT.

On a more serious note, I don't think that they were together. I think they have the relationship that develops between two people when they know each other very well, work closely together, share ideas, and trust each other completely. I think that her status as second in line at the school (she is the assistant headmistress, after all) shows how highly Dumbledore thinks of her and her skills and abilities. I also think that despite the fact that she seems very strict, she also has a very kind and generous heart, and actually loves the kids she teaches. (Well, not all of them--I don't think she is particularly fond of Draco and Company, but in a world that divided, she knows she cannot do anything about the Death Eaters and their kids. It's not like wizardry classes are taught as electives at regular schools.)

I don't think they have ever been a couple. Minerva is 70, and Albus is 150. They have never, ever shown even a hint of having been together. Lupin and many others were also extremely upset about his death, so I don't think that her grief can be any indication of a deeper relationship. If anything her strict view on professionalism might lead her to believe that such a relationship would be unprofessional.

But, we have very little of either of their pasts, so it's intriguing to think of them being a couple. JK Rowling has said that some of the professors at Hogwarts are married, but she has not specified which ones or to whom.

McGonagall and Dumbledore did dance together, but so did many non-couples... Neville and Ginny danced, and they were not a couple. Dumbledore and Madame Maxime also danced, and they were certainly not a couple.

So, I think it's a fun theory to indulge, but I doubt it is true :)

Actually it was only in the movie that Dumbledore danced with McGonagall. In the book it first mentions Dumbledore dancing with Madame Maxime. Then the second time it mentions teachers dancing it is McGonagall with Ludo Bagman and Dumbledore is dancing with Professor Sprout!!!

No I don't think they were together. I see why you would think that though, but I've never seen Minerva or Albus as the romantic type. But I see your point.

Even though they did seem very close, I don't think that they had any type of romantic relationship. They were probably just good friends.
