i've driven from the Gold Coast which is about 1 hour before brisbane to Sydney, and it took us about 10 1/2 hours. You should be able to do it in about 11 1/2 to 12 hours, keep in mind that they do have a lot of roadworks at the moment!

Stick to the spped limit and if you must speed, when you see 3 signs in a row staying the speed limit and something about speed camera's slow down cause there will be a speed camera ahead.

Good luck with your trip!

As a professional Driver with upwards of 2 million klms under my belt, if you cannot manage a 1000 klms in 6 days, kid in the back or not,and feel the need to fly half of it, I reckon the rest of us road users would feel a lot better if you took the bus. Besides, why drive half way, or part thereof, go to the expense of air tickets and have to leave your car in the car park? Sydney without a car, and getting around with small children, is NOT the best idea in the world. If you only drove 180 klms a day, say 3 hours at a whole stretch, which you can still break up, your six days will see you arrive fresh as a daisy and you will have ambled down at a leisurely pace, staying over where it takes your fancy and the kid will be fine.

It is 1000km up the Pacific Highway. It could be done in twelve hours with fuel and food stops depending on traffic. At holiday times make it 15 hours. It is a good road and more than two thirds of it is now a four lane divided road. There are overtaking lanes at least every ten kilometres.

do you intend to drive non stop? if so, 12 hrs on the pacific highway. a lot longer on the new england (inland) highway as more two lane traffic only & a great many heavy trucks hauling goods north - esp dangerous at night.
