There are so many exotics animals and I'd love to have one...what are the laws on exotic pets?

Can people have sugar gliders as pets?

What about hedgehogs?

Monkeys?

Could somebody tell me if I could have any of these in Ohio?

thank you.

Most exotic pet laws are local in nature - city, county, township. If you truly want to be in compliance I would check with the city/township and county in your area for the ordinances that are relevant.

Purchasing a hedgehog or sugar glider from a breeder or a pet store is okay, as long as you understand the animal and do not release it to fend for itself. Monkeys are illegal coming into the country. They live for a good long lifetime so they are quite a commitment, and in some cases hard to tolerate, so maybe you should think again on a monkey.
