I just bought a website from someone. I didn't pay the domain name or hosting fees yet. If they cancel what will happen to my website?

Well if your web hosting fee isn't paid the site will cease to be reachable. If the domain name hasn't been paid for and expires it will become available to anyone who wants it again. Usually domain names are paid for in adance and registered for at least a year. They need to be registered to YOU not to any other person if you want to really OWN them. Whoever is listed as the registrant OWNS that name.

Which is why in most cases you want to register your domain name yourself rather than have someone else do it for you. Many names are actually "stolen" by this process.

If they cancel and the hosting company still has them as the owner, you will lose that account. Same thing for the domain name. If you are not listed as the contact/ owner for the domain name, once the expiration date comes and the domain is not renewed, you can lose it as well.

Get EVERYTHING YOU PURCHASED transfered to your name, especially the domain name.

Get a copy of the source code for the website on a disc so that you can transfer the files to a hosting company of your choice.

Push the domain to your account
Change webhosting password

(only yearly one need to pay, so you renew webhosting as well as domain for as many years as you want)
