It is a dysfunctional relationship that revolves around alcohol drugs porn & deception. They are also addicted to unhealthy relationships. They are doomed to go to their grave like this................it has gotten to the point of no return.

Real friends become family over time. Sometimes that is all that people or in this case, Muppet's, have. I personally am insulted over the implications that Bert and Ernie are anything other than best and dearest of friends.

They're uh... um... "puppets" and the guy who makes them talk has TWO hands and well... Burt is on ONE hand and Ernie is on the other......
They owe their friendship to the guy with Two hands.
It would be a sad sad day if by chance the puppeteer lost a hand or his whole arm. Burt and Ernie would forever be one puppet shows.

Because they listen to eachother, even when they disagree. I think they both understand that a good relationship means compromise and hard work and neither one of them is going to let the other down.
