Hm, you're in a tight spot, I used to live in Cinco Ranch and while I didn't have a car while I was in HS, my friends always gave me a lift, and now that I live in memorial, I'm really lucky to have a bus stop two blocks from me. The only scary part of it is crossing memorial dr which is crazy with traffic all the time and the cars drive fast as well. I ride the metro everywhere to my job, to school, the mall, downtown, med center, you name it, and I agree the public transportation in Houston is pretty limited to areas close to downtown, I understand your frustration. The problem with Houston is that with all of the money lying in oil companies and cars, there's no way we're going to get a light rail instead of an HOV lane. That would be so awesome, I'm sure people would ride it, who wants to spend money on gas&parking when you can pay 1.50 to ride downtown!? The cost would be balanced because we spend so much money taring down and rebuilding highways when we could just get a train built on platforms. As far as bike lanes we do need more but really I don't know that people would invest on it, you'd have to expand the streets and such and that means more traffic because of construction. I don't know that building bike lanes on highways is feasible or safe, I'm talking more about within neighborhoods. I don't agree with getting rid of suburbs they're nice to live in! Buses are nice depending on what routes you take, I don't understand the "not just for the poor" thing, usually their buses are crap compared to what the park&rides get. But yes, they need improvement.

Sure, toss it over here. Just don't let my neighbor's dog get it. She will take off with it and we won't see it any more until it's chewed full of holes. (They don't sail as well that way.)
