I don't know all the reasons, however, if you have a wireless router you can restrict access based on Mac Address. It's possible to spoof a Mac Address and possibly access someone else's wireless router. See this link

why is it bad? i don't know because its hardware ddress to yoru interface card weather ethernet or wireless. i don't think its bad. cuz other than finding otu what evender it is from, i do not know how to track a mac address down to an individual take the case of a machine for sale on ebay, maybe the mac was tracked to the owner from the purchase at the store but when the machien changes hands on ebay that mac address isn't forwarded to a new person. therefore they do not help you track people after a first generation sale of the product. so its not dangerous to reveal it.
you need it to register on most wifi places anyway.

since a MAC address is permanent into a machine, it is one easy way to hack that machine, even if the hacker wont know your IP address (supposing that you have a dynamic IP and it changes every now and then), he can use the MAC address.
