China - America is simply no good at strategy and hasn't the troops necessary to hold that sort of area in a conventional conflict. The reverse however is not true. In a nuclear exchange China will most likely survive but if even one American is nuked then collapse and civil war is likely since martial law or continuity of government would have to be opposed and America is pretty divided. But then again I don't think China will ever fight America on the battlefield, all they need to do is keep working harder than the US and they will own it. Perhaps y'all shouldn't have been so quick to introduce them to capitalism ;)

The better question is how to avoid such a conflict. As China grows and has demands for food, oil and water they can not meet they will compete on the world market for them. America could be competing for those same interests and the top bidder will win. At what point does China or the US stop bidding and start shooting? Ideally in a solid capitalist world they would not - which leads us to the capitalist / socialist debate. If there is no "bidding" then who decides who gets what resources? The one with the bigger army usually wins.

Depends, if you mean conventional battle with non nuclear weapons, china is larger by far and vastly building up to have the largest army in the world. So, in all probability, they would. In a nuclear exchange, there would be no winner, only losers.

The whole planet would lose. There wouldn't be a spot on it with any life forms higher than a roach after the fallout from the nukes were done.

In a conventional war USA will need 30,000,000 (thirty million) troops to win great glorious China.
Will you be able to sacrifice?
