I don't really agree here...

I had excellent fish in south of Spain at half the price of Greece. The reason? the Atlantic ocean is far reacher in fish than our poor (in fish) Mediterranean waters. I love the way the Greeks prepare it but you should also bear in mind that French or Italians have excellent fish recipes. You would even be surprised to know that in a country like Netherlands you can have excellent fish such as "faggri" or "tsipoura" for only 8 euros/kilo...(!) in the local market. The reason is that they have these fish by the dozen and these are appreciated only in Greece where the waters are shallow and the fish are harder to find...

Having said that, I could not agree more with you that the environment, mentality and the way one can enjoy a fish in Greece (or Turkey) are second to nothing.

Because other than that, you may find that the fish you enjoy so much in Greece, comes from Singapore or from artificial fisheries (particularly in Rhodes/Crete/Mykonos/Santorini this is now days the rule). And there is nothing bad about that either.

It's good, but I don't necessarily know if it's the best. There are varieties of fish you can get in Hawaii, for example, that are fantastic. The fish in Turkey is tasty though. As far as "tasteful", not so sure--I've never seen a fish wearing a tuxedo, much less clothing--so I'm going to have to say no on that one.

As your kitchen and our kitchen is 90% the same, I agree...We both have delicious dishes, in various kind of food, and in fish also. We can say that actually we Aegeans have the best kitchen of the world, that's so obvious !!

But I haven't eaten yet all the foods of the world...For example, I don't know what it's like in Brazil or in South Africa...I know the chineese and japanese, and I don't really appreciate it...
If you have travelled a lot, I suppose you are able to have a verified statement about it...

I am sure there are other countries that prepare fish in a very tasteful manner, like Italy and Spain and Portugal. It must be the Mediterranean blood in us. But yes, I agree with you, Turks and Greeks just love to cook fish. Maybe that's the secret: love.

it depends on how fresh the fish is. I've eaten fish in a river-side restaraunt and it was terrible, and I've eaten a fish that I caught out of that same river and it was amazingly good.

I totally agree with you.

By the way, what is the name of that very small, silver like colored fish that is served in small restaurants? It was served as fried.. I tasted it in Athens in a September but don't know the name. It was delicious!!!!
