My wife was on the depo birth control shot for six months about a year ago. she has returned to the pill. She chose to after gaining wait wich was an expected side effect, However my wife has also lost all sex drive. She is very depressed she has been told it is due to the shot. Is this true? We were also told it would wear of, Will it? We were both very sexual and we are having a very rough time. Is there anything we can do to bring back the Drive? I love her and would never think of cheating or leaving im mostly worried about her becoming dangerously depressed.

I was on the Depo shot for 2 years and some odd months, and yes, this is a serious side effect of it. The hormones in the shot are much stronger than a birth control pill, hence why menstruation stops entirely. Some pills can also have an adverse effect on a woman's sex drive. I had to switch pills a few different times after getting off the Depo to find the right one for me. Currently, I'm taking Estrostep FE and having no problems, weight gain or sexual drive issues. Good luck and be sure to tell your wife to communicate these problems with her doctor.

I am concerned that your wife is depressed- I would think that that is what is causing her to have no sex drive. Is she seeing anyone for the depression? Is she taking medications for the depression as some of them have a lowered sex drive as a side effect? As for the depo I would think that the effects have worn off by now- a change in the birth control pill might help also.

it is a well known fact that Depo, the Nuva ring, and the pill can cause depression, loss of sex drive, weight gain, mood swings, breakthrough bleeding, pregnancy, blood clots, PE, drug interactions, and even strokes.

NFP (natural family planning) is not the Catholic rhythym method but a very reliable way to track your wife's fertility. It can be used to avoid/achieve a pregnancy, it's safe, easy to learn, CHEAP, won't interact w/any meds, can be used by women w/irregular cycles or who have serious medical problems. It strengthens marriages as well & fosters a closeness that the pill can't.

My husband & I have been using NFP for 10 yrs. successfully to avoid a pregnancy due to severe health problems I have. We learned about it via a local hospital & were taught by a trained NFP instructor on how to monitor our fertility.

It does take committment & communication on both your parts, but is that what your marriage is all about??? you have so much to gain and nothing to lose. Can the same be said about the pill???

below are links on where to find a local NFP instructor in your area. It's a well known fact that couples who use NFP have a divorce rate of < 1% while those who contracept have a rate of > 50%.

Drop the depo shot. See a naturopath, NOW for depression treatment. And hey, what's your diet like?
