Oh dear! - The Guardian is supposed to be one of our better newspapers. What country do you come from and how do newspapers differ.
The guardian publishes the 'upmarket' Sunday newspaper The Sunday Observer. They pride themselves on being an intellectual read they will be very disappointed to hear this!
But if you think that the Guardian is trash as others have suggested you ought to try - for a laugh - papers like The Sun, The Mirror, and the worst one of all The Sport

Most of the world is politically to the left of the USA, which is one of the reasons that Bush can never win a popularity contest except in US elections.
Each nation has different rules.
Freedom of Press is very strong in USA compared to other nations, so US media has the freedom to do serious stories, but often appeals to lowest denominator public.
In Britain, the government much more easily can stop the media from reporting stuff that the government not want reporting, so what is free to be covered is lowest common denominator.

One can always google to find out the names of British newspapers...
That's all you have to do. Just type "British newspapers" and hit the search key...
and btw the United States has its share of 'tabloid trash' also....even some of the so-called 'better' journalistic sources are on just about the same level as the Guardian.

The Guardian is one of the better newspapers in the UK. Was it too left-wing for you rather than being 'trash'? There are far trashier newspapers in the UK with essentially peurile content, for example The Sun, Daily Star, Daily Sport.

I don't like it, I don't like many of the papers in the U.K.
The Sun (Dear Deidre - class), the Mirror etc are a bit thin on news and have more tabloid content - Posh and Becks.
The Times is okay. but try The independent. That's alright.

Sometimes I feel like this about this paper and sometimes I find interesting articles in there.
As far as the daily papers go, I do not buy the same one all of the time.
I think that the outgoing PM has just enhanced the Independent's profile. The Times is worth a look from time to time.
New Internationalist, Private Eye, it depends what is your cup of tea

Sorry to diappoint you , but this is what Britain's media has come to. They're pretty much all like this. Some might even consider The Guardian to be 'posh'. You should take a look at The Sun (a British tabloid). Not that I'm complaining... it beats boring stuff any day.

The Guardian is considered respectable because it produces left wing tabloid trash. A sensible newspaper is the Daily Telegraph

The Guardian is supposed to be pretty high brow. Its quite left of centre. If you think thats trashy you want to read The Sun and The Star!!!
Try The TImes and The Independent.
