Take vitamins with a lot of zinc in them.

Buff your nails once a week. There are foam buffing boards you can get with several sides of coarsness. Buff, smooth, polish.

Ironically, this makes your nails stronger. You end up buffing out any ridges that naturally form on the surface of your nails. These ridges cause your nails to weaken and split. Buffing helps to prevent this, and it also makes your nails shiny and especially smooth.

Follow with a nail strenghtener. I personally like "Hard as Nails" by Opi. I've tried others, but this one really makes your nails strong. You can get Opi in a beauty supply store. Do this for three weeks and you will really notice a difference.

i used to have the same problem until i found out about this trick from some magazine..

chop up garlic into tiny little pieces
stick it in some clear nailpolish
apply some once or twice a week.
seriously it works!
i did this about a year ago and ever since my nails are really long and they don`t break at all.

garlic is known to have some nutrients & vitamins that make your nails stronger & healthier.

but if you don`t wanna do that you can always go out to your local drugstore or beauty shop & pick up some Nutrine Garlic Nail Hardener..it`s about $12.

Sounds like you have strong nails. Weak nails split and tear. Strong nails chip. Try keeping a coat of a good nail polish on them, even a clear coat, to keep them protected.

I have the same problem, mine peel. It can mean that you're not taking enough iron. Boosting the Vitamin C intake can help as well with iron intake. I'm 14 and my mom had the same problem when she was my age, then it went away for her without her having to do anything.
I've tried nail strengthening nail polishes and they don't work for me. (I wouldn't suggest Sally Hansen. Takes forever to dry!) But it is suggested to use these types of nail polishes. You might have better luck.

Not to brag, but I have nice nails. Try drinking some gellatin (warm), Gellatin is suppose to harden or thicken your nails. Also, keeping a clear coat or some kind of strengthening polish on them might not be bad idea. Good luck !

Keep your nails short, square-shaped but a little rounded on the top; keep them filed and clean... only clip nails after soaking for 15 min. or after your bath/shower... you also need to moisturize daily -nails AND cuticles- just like your skin... dietary changes won't work unless you are deficient in protein which is highly unlikely in north america... also, there is very little calcium in nails; calcium supplements and gelatin have NOT been proven to work... avoid harsh soaps and nail-polish remover... wear cotton-lined rubber gloves when doing chores... good luck!

1. stop painting your nails for a while
2. try to squeeze out natural juice from fruits that have a lot of vitamins in them. out the juice on a cotton ball on put it on your nails like you do with nail polish remover
3. theres also nail strengthener. you can buy them anywhere practically
4. file them often

rubbing a piece of garlic helps strengthen the nails.
or using a nail hardener as a primer- the basecoat before applying color.
