Depends on the type of site you want. If you want a site that your own which gives you full control of what's displayed so you don't have lots of advertisements, pop-ups etc, no download charges, no additional charges for future changes to the site, unlimited live technical support and be able to sell your CD's or downloads on line and accept credit cards for payments. A quality site will never a negative impact on your band's image.

To get one of these, you can purchase a complete solution including a domain name, hosting, and all the above at a reasonable cost and have it developed to your satisfaction within a few days. I can provide you one. Send me an email.

The other thing you can do is look for a free site like myspace (which is recommended anyway, because you can direct people to you site from there). The trouble is that you don't have complete control of the content, you get advertisements that may take away from your band's image. And your site may be deleted at anytime if you break Myspace's rules, forcing you to rebuild the site.

If you are currently a paid Internet subscriber, you are entitled to a "homepage" which often contains simple navigation and editing tools. And if you use the Netscape browser, the built-in Composer feature is a superior HTML authoring tool. You can easily generate a full-blown website as a Homepage.

Nevertheless, the "homepage" URL is likely to be "http://homepage.earthlink.com/subscriber... name" and that URL can easily be overwritten via a redirection service, i.e., "mydomain.com" which allows you to link any registered domain name to "mask" another website. For example, should you type in the "domain name," you will be immediately transported to the homepage and the hompage URL of http://homepage.earthlink.com/subscriber., a homepage URL which will be masked by the domain name. And the charge for the redirection service [even at godaddy.com] is normally FREE.

Here's a demonstration: Type in the URL window: "www.pizzanextdoor.com" which will bring up their pizza website. Take note of the domain name. Then type in the URL window: "http://home.pacbell.net/vten/1a/pizzamen... and you will see that this is the original homepage which is unmasked without the domain name.

Good luck!

I used Microsoft Frontpage to build my website. You acquire your domain name and hosting, then upload your content. If you're a beginner, start with something easy. Consider getting a package deal on domain and hosting from Yahoo or something like that.
