My Sony Vaio computer is partitioned into two drives, the C and D drive. I am out of space on the C drive and have plenty of space on the D drive. I need to either move some programs over to the other drive or delete them altogether. What is the best way to go about doing that? Is there any other way to free up space? I can't even run the defrag, it's so full. Also I am always leary of deleting programs that came preinstalled on the computer (always seems to cause problems) but what can I really get rid of, I don't use half the crap on here? Thanks for your help!

- To uninstall programs (not delete them) go to Start-Control Panel-Add and Remove Programs and you will have the list of programs installed on your computer. Uninstall the unuseful ones.
- To move files to the other partition: select the files/folders you want to move and either right click on them and select Cut and paste them in a location on the other partition or drag them from the location on C:/ to a window opened in D:/. Check your My Documents folder, as well, that's where many files are saved by default.
- To get rid of temporary/unuseful files taken from the internet, etc. use CCleaner http://www.ccleaner.com/download/
After all these operations defrag the hard drive.
Very important: try to keep the C:/ drive (the one where Windows is installed) at 50% free space for a good performance of the computer. In the future, you could install programs on the D:/ drive, you just have to select the drive when you install.
Good luck!

Programs cannot be easily moved from one drive to another but files can. From My Computer open up the C drive and start with any files that you don't use at all - delete them! Next those files that you need to keep select them and choose "move this file" - move them to D drive. Particularly sizeable files are music, pictures and videos - move them first. After moving some, check to see if you have enough space to defrag - if so, do it. Also, from Start>All Programs>Accessories>Disc Cleanup - do a disc cleanup which will get rid of a lot of temporary files and compress some old files. Try to keep on top in future.

Delete the ones youre sure you dont use
Or you can start all over and just put in the stuff you do use. Im always amazed at how much stuff I have on there that is unnecessary.

go to control panel, add/remove programs and uncheck "show updates" that way it won't show the windows updates. then, just uninstall all the programs that you no longer use. programs i wouldn't recommend uninstalling: programs that came with hardware, for example, if you have a webcam, don't uninstall the software that came with it, 'cause you'll need it, but everything else that you don't use, uninstall (except for your anti-virus and firewall and anti-spyware)
