I need to drive from Kentucky to Montana and back in a couple of weeks by myself. Is it legal to park all night in a rest area on the interstates to get some sleep?

Rather than using a rest area, I would recommend that you pull over in a Truck Stop and get some sleep there. It is much safer than the rest areas, and they have shower facilities if you need to freshen up in the morning, as well as food and what not.

It's not legal, nor is it safe! If you are driving an RV or van you are allowed to stay overnights in Walmart parking lots. (Funny, but they do allow it! It's all about safety there I guess.) Your best bet would be to stay at a hotel, truck stop or camp ground. Get a small tent and sleeping bag and enjoy your trip!

some rest areas have time limits. because of illegal activity like loitering prowling littering etc. truckers do it sometimes because of lack of parking anywhere else sometimes truckstops are full. they need to sleep somewhere. you should plan your trip so you can nap in the rest area and not really stay to long.

Its not legal, but lots of folks do it. Especially truckers. Just stay in a safe area close to other people, not alone. It could be dangerous.

sure!

I use to sleep in my car at truck stops...sides of roads...rest areas.

You'd rather sleep at a rest stop then fall asleep at the wheel wouldn't you?

Most cops will agree with me on this. They'd rather see you pull over at a rest stop and sleep, than endanger yourself and others on the road. COMMON SENSE MAN!

Truckers do it all the time, I would assume it was legal.
