Jimmy Page is pretty undisputed in my mind. An innovator, a team player, and a virtuoso. And yes, he does rock the house.

Some others that are worth mentioning:
Steve Howe is personally a fav because he is a master and he is in my fav band, Yes.
Eric Clapton
BB King
Prince is quite the showman, and unique in his stylings
Jeff Beck
Eddie Van Halen
Steve Vai

All these guys are big because they are essential elements in their bands or their music.

Yngvie Malmsteen and Joe Satriani are huge, even if I don't listen to them much because I like vocals in my rock. The reason they are huge is because their music has no other focal point and they carry the weight of their bands.

Man, as great as Page was/is, he's really sloppy, I think. For someone who plays solely with a group, I'd have to make a list. In my book, it would look like this:

1. Eddie Van Halen
2. Tak Matsumoto
3. Randy Rhoads
4. John Petrucci
5. Michael Romeo

Keep in mind that I'm not listing people like Steve Vai, Joe Satriani or Eric Johnson due to the fact that they're normally solo artists.

I love Brian May of Queen.

A close second would be Richie Sambora of Bon Jovi.

Slash (Guns and Roses), Lindsey Buckingham (Fleetwood Mac), Ace Frehley (Kiss), and Eddie Van Halen (Van Halen) were all heroes of mine as well. Vince Gill, John Jorgenson and Red Shea, though not near Rock, were heroes as well.
