Everytime I come here there's someone talking about how everyone's trying to be them, how insanely different and inspiring they are, it's like they actually believe that they're right up there with Elvis, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, etc...I mean, they're a good band, but I could'nt tell the difference between them and any other emo band out there!

Can someone please explain this to me?

Yeah, I've noticed that too. I think it's because they really feel like the band has really changed their lives. Don't get me wrong, I love MCR, but you're right-they're not the Beatles. MCR fans are REALLY attached fans. Didn't you hear about them giving death threats to the restaurant employees that gave MCR food poisoning? That's crazy! I mean, I'm probably one of the biggest FOB fans out there, but I wouldn't threaten to kill someone that accidently got the band sick! MCR is a really different kind of band compared to most out there that I've heard. They actually write concept albums, which is unlike most new bands, but that really isn't a new concept; just look at Pink Floyd. And honestly, there are a lot of bands out there that ARE changing the world. U2, and a lot of other musicians are out there trying to make things better for the world. MCR is great, and probably one of the best newer bands, but there are a lot of other bands that deserve more recognition and definitely a bigger fan base. (And, yes I know by writing that some MCR fan is probably going to send me death threats, because that's just the kind of people they seem to be. Just so they know, I have Three Cheers and the Black Parade on my iPod because I do like their music; it's just the crazy fans I can't handle.)

They sound like everything else on alternative radio right now. A friend let me borrow their latest album. It was decent sounding and somewhat lyrically poignant but by NO means revolutionary, life affirming, or even enough to make a fan out of me. But, it is the fans that create their own idealism. This is conjecture on my part, but ask the band (any band at that) and ask them if they think their changing the world and they will probably laugh at you.

I can't explain it...I've also heard people who think Coldplay is the best rock band in the world (on MTV)...Uh...WTF?...I think they're good...but no one would confuse them for The Beatles or The Rolling Stones...I think the attention is more about Chris Martin, the lead singer, being married to Gwyneth Paltrow...

I totally agree...
and all the other emo bands just sound like lame versions of The Cure.

doesn't that carry on song have a very similar melody to Smashing Pumpkin's "tonight?"

:O I Love MCR!!!!! Most of their songs have meaning to them, and if you check one of their interviews on Youtube, you'll see one of the interviews where he says stuff about writing songs or doing stuff about things that aren't being questioned or how peoples behaviour isn't being questioned. Nad they arent emo!!! They're Alternative rock, but have the appearance and sometimes lyrics of an emo song/ band.

If any bands were to change the world it would probably be RATM because of all their politics and they would always have protest concerts. And one of the reasons the singer/rapper/dude left was so he could be a full-time activist.

I went to one of their concerts... wow- I was so NOT impressed. The only people they change are their fans. I guess the difference is that- no... ok, there just isn't any difference. Is emo perhaps the result of a cloning project gone horribly wrong?

When I was,
A young boy,
My father, took me into the city
To see a marching band
He said, "Son when you grow up, will you be the saviour of the broken, the beaten and the damned?"
He said, "Will you defeat them, your demons, and all the non-believers, the plans that they have made? Because one day, I'll leave you, a phantom, to lead you in the summer, to join the black parade."

When I was,
A young boy
My father, took me into the city
To see a marching band
He said, "Son when you grow up, will you be the saviour of the broken, the beaten and the damned?"

Sometimes I get the feeling, she's watching over me
And other times I feel like I should go
And through it all, the rise and fall
The bodies in the street
And when you're gone we want you all to know

We'll carry on, We'll carry on
And though you're dead and gone believe me
Your memory will carry on
We'll carry on
Until my heart I can't contain it
The anthem won't explain it

A world that sends you reeling from decimated dreams
You're misery and hate will kill us all
So paint it black and take it back
Lets shout it loud and clear
Defiant to the end we hear the call
To carry on

We'll carry on,
And though your dead and gone believe me
Your memory will carry on
We'll carry on
And though your broken and defeated
Your weary widow marches on
And on we carry through the fears
Oh oh oh

The disappointed faces of your peers
Oh oh oh
Take a look at me 'cause I could not care at all
Do or die
You’ll never make me
Because the world will never take my (heart)
Go and try; you’ll never break me
We want it all, we want to play this (part)
I won’t explain, or say I’m sorry
I’m unashamed, I’m gonna show my (scar)
Give a cheer, for all the broken
Listen here, because it’s who we are
I'm just a man; I'm not a hero
Just a boy, whose meant to sing this (song)
I'm just a man; I'm not a hero
I
Don't
Care

We'll carry on
We'll carry on
And though you're dead and gone believe me
Your memory will carry on
We'll carry on
And though your broken and defeated
Your weary widow marches on
Do or die
You’ll never make me
Because the world will never take my (heart)
Go and try; you’ll never break me
We want it all, we want to play this (part)
I won’t explain, or say I’m sorry
I’m unashamed, I’m gonna show my (scar)
Give a cheer, for all the broken
Listen here, because it’s who we are
I'm just a man; I'm not a hero
Just a boy, who had to sing this (song)
I'm just a man; I'm not a hero)
We'll carry on
We'll carry on
We'll carry on
We'll carry on
We'll carry on
