Will a 8 pin power connector work for a 4 pin CPU motherboard connection?

yes just leave 2 pins out. I have built computers like this and had no complaints. its usually happens because the power supply's are being built for the core 2 extremes and turiton 64 x2 and he Duos motherboards. im guessing you don't have those and are trying to install a pentium 4?

Check the connection on the power Supply....The 8 Pin connector might be able to be slit in 2 (Held together by a plastic clip)...A lot of PSUs made today feature this so they can be used by many motherboard manufacturers...Hope this helps!!

If the plug fits and follows the key at the correct voltage pinouts, then it should work. That's assuming there will be no obstructions to the plug.
