I had to convince my parents to let me get one too. I sat down with them and told them why I wanted one. I told them everything I knew about them: their diet, their needs, and how long they lived. I told them that I was going to be working to support it and that if I realized I couldn't take care of it any longer, I would be responsible and try and find it a new home. I think you should just talk calmly and not get upset. If you don't they might not look at you as childish.

Make sure that you have all of your bases covered.
1- Water Dragons live for 8-12 years, make sure you're ready for the commitment, and be able to argue why you are.
2- Water Dragons are very docile reptiles, and will tend to hide from your mom when she comes into see it.
3- Is there any reason for you mother to regularly be in the same room as the water dragon (laundry etc.)? If so offer to take full responsibility for everything in that room, so that she doesn't have to go in there.
4- They will eat crickets or meal worms, most of them won't eat crickets for the first couple weeks, and the meal worms will need to stay in the fridge... make sure there's a place in the fridge that won't gross anyone else in the family.

Check out www.triciaswaterdragon.com . Do a complete study on them and know everything you need to care for them, including UVB lighting, specific heat, diet, very tall caging, and a water source you have to keep spotlessly clean. Then, take your parents to local reptile expos in your area so they can see how wonderful these animals can be. If you are a trustworthy and responsible person, then prove it to them! People are only afraid of things they don't know much about. Once your mom has a chance to see these animals, and talk to lots of people who have them, she might feel better about it. They are gentle creatures if handled well. Also check out www.reptilerooms.com and read up on the water dragons forum. Let her talk to other owners. Good luck. They are a lot of work, but worth it.

I don't blame you, the babies in the store are ADORABLE! Have you shown them to him, they are cute, and the only other reptiles I like are my crested geckos. Also, they are very sweet and become attached to you. Tell him it will be your pet and you will take care of him.
