The future in space looks pretty dim. It still costs about $10,000 per pound to get anything (or anyone) into orbit. Until that cost can be brought down, the average person isn't going anywhere, and not much is going to be brought back that's going to be used to improve the average person's life.

That much is obvious.

I seriously doubt the cost will come down much until we spend more on related technology, and that's not going to happen when most governments tend to waste money on what "The People" want right here and now, which is basically free hot dogs and sodas.
