Good question....

Animals that come out at night: nocturnal
Animals that come out during the day: diurnal
Animals that come out during dawn/dusk: crepuscular

Side note to that above, with crepuscular animals they are known to also be active during the night when there is a great deal of light still around (example: full moon, no clouds)

If you are doing research on it you will also want to look up "endogenous" and "exogenous". More or less those tend to be the guiding factors that decide what time animals are active. There is more to it than just that, but those well noted factors.

The opposite is diurnal `happening by day, coming out during the day, occurring every day'. Animals which come out at twilight are called crepuscular.
