Hia, I need a replacement mains fuse, which is fitted to a black box that powers the houses consumer unit. The one that has blown is rated at 80 amps, and is large and green.

Does anyone know where I could buy one from, an online shop would be ideal?

cheers xxx

I live in the UK.

Its a big fuse, that is used to protect the electric companies wiring through any faults on our end.

The fault is still being diagnosed by competent people, but we need to have a replacement fuse ready for when the repairs are made, we only have a few days to get old of one.

Are you confident you can replace the main fuse in your home safely?
Have you corrected the fault that would trip your main fuse?
An electrical supply store or home center will carry these fuses, but if you don't know what you are doing...

Hi
As you live in the UK it is illegal for you to do anything to the main fuse to your property, the fuse enclosure should have a tamper seal on it. If you call your electricity supplier, they will send an engineer to replace it. They do sometimes fail due to age or due to a fault somewhere else in the electrical system. The engineer will check when he comes but repairs in your property will probably be chargeable. Bear in mind that a fault causing the main fuse to blow needs to be investigated without delay. Just replacing the fuse is not a safe option.

home center is you best replace with same rateing but make sure its a time-delay fuse should work fine.

ps it could be something that blew the fuse have it checked but as fuse's get older they do get weaker

I'm sure there's some kind of stupid "fuse puller" thing in the world somewhere. I'd probably just grab with some needle nose pliers.

you cant buy them,, i had the same problem on a job i was doing,, because i went through a cable and it blew the main fuse, had to call out the electricity board to get it replaced, and was charged for it,, so lie to them and say it blew for now reason at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
but make sure whatever blew it is repaired first!!!

Buying small things locally will probably be cheaper than paying shipping and hanldling even considering tax. I would go to a home center who good prices to start with.
