Hello!

Atoms are electrical neutral. Because number of protons is the same with the number of electrons. When an atom "takes" electrons it is charged negatively. When it "loses" electrons, it is charged positively. So the particle that is responsible for electrical charges and currents is the electron. When an atom loses for example 3 electrons it's electrical charge will be +3.

You cannot avoid the flyaway hair effect, cause there aren't any metal combs! In some materials when u brush your hair u take electrons from it's surface and put them onto ur hair. when this is done many times, the charge is multiplied. An electrical field is generated because of the static electrical charges. Ur hair are charged negatively (absorbed electrons) and the comb is charged positively (losed electrons) The electrical field causes forces (electrical forces between the +,- charges) and that's why the comb acts like a magnet.

1) electrons are on the outside of the atom, so they are the part transferred from one to another when a charge is transferred. The protons cannot be transferred since they are deep in the center at the nucleus.

2) rubbing a rubber rod with a rabbit fur gives the rubber rod a negative charge. Combing your hair with a rubber or similar comb would give the comb a negative charge and your hair a positive charge. That means that static would be in your hair. Use something that would not cause static build-up or just use hair spray.

1. electrons

2. unpolished wood, because it has a lower tendency to build up static charge (i.e electrons) than plastic.
