We know they don't like to stand up to those that would take it away... can't go to war to protect or perserve it.
We can't gather intelligence to protect the nation... (a terrorists "civil rights" might get trampled on)
We can't interogate know hostiles to provide life saving information with out giving them full rights of a citizen first... then we can't do it because they have full rights as a citizen.
And whatever we do... DON'T ACTUALLY PROFILE those that "fit" the profile of a terrorist.... lets worry about grandma and that suspicious looking 8 year old.
Every measure to help make us safe is met with resistance by the libs.... of course I guess if you don't have the understanding that with freedom comes responsibility.
So, what are you willing to give up for your freedom?

Now that I have read plenty of answers... there are many that do not believe that they do not give anything up for freedom. This is not true. We all give up certain things for freedom because it does come at a price and with responsibility.
We give up tax dollars to build a defense for those that would chose to take away our freedoms. This is money that could be spent for so many other things if we did not have to protect our freedom.
We allow our selves to be searched at an airport and we take off our shoes and allow our bags to be scanned to ensure our safety and freedom.
We have numurous laws on our books that prevent you from doing absolutely anything you want to protect our safety and freedoms.
Some of these things are minor and some just make plain common sense if we have a respect for others. The point is, you do "give up" things for freedom and some of those things actually afford you more freedom.

When a situation becomes intense... like lets say a certain area of town becomes very high crime. I am guessing you would not let your child travel through that part of town. You have put a restriction on them. Yes, you took a bit of their "freedom" away. Will it actually effect their life dramatically? Not really, maybe five extra minutes of travel to get around that area to be safe. Or do you take the blinded approach of not wanting to "label" all people in that neighborhood so you allow your kid to travel through it just so you don't trample on their freedoms or trample on the feelings of those living in that neighborhood?
Apply common sense to the situation. There are situations in life that will require a responsible action, that might cause you to change the way you may do something until the situation is resolved.

BTW... do you suppose Ben Franklin abided by the law? Thereby giving up certain freedoms to do those acts that were forbidden by the law or else there would be consequences....

Liberals are willing to give up my freedoms to expand their control of the populace. They take my money to spend on other people to buy their votes. Nancy Pulosi is willing to give up my freedom to use energy to prevent Al Gore's misconceived "global warming" The current Democratic led Senate is willing to give up my freedom of having a "Secure America" for a few illegal votes. They are also willing to give up my freedom to retain a portion of the inflated value of my property (driven by Government) by removing the Bush tax cuts which stimulated the economy. Anytime government regulates something more we all loose freedoms. The Muslim extremists detained in Guantanimo do not have the rights of US Citizens contrary to liberals and the ACLU. Because we signed the Geneva Conventions they would have those rights IF THEY WERE UNIFORMED COMBATANTS. If they were captured, not wearing a uniform, they do not even have those rights. When we have a minibus filled with 15 illegals driving on our highways I think that is a "profile" that needs to be profiled, both for our safety and the saftey of the 15.

I disagree with the liberals since they do stupid things that make us give up our freedoms. They give extra freedoms and rights to people that don't deserve it.
For example, the liberals want to give the illegals rights but that takes away the rights of citizens. Illegals can get free health care but that causes people that need those services to pay much more and wait a long time.

if we give things away we loose freedom....
our freedom has never been in question. we were attack on 9/11 and we broke up the group that attacked us. they had to resort to using planes because they had no real military.
the only thing we had to do to ensure our safety was to hunt the men who got out of afganhistan and stop the groups from reforming. naturally we would have had to make some allies in the middle east to allow us to search for those men and to report/arrest them if they were sighted.
that hasn't been done yet

can't go to war to protect or perserve it.
-Wait, Iraq was a threat to our freedom?
We can't gather intelligence to protect the nation
-We are gathering intelligence, we were able to do so long before 9/11. This administration wants to break our own laws so it can illegally wiretap anyone they wish.
So my question to you is this, are you willing to give up you freedom of privacy in order to preserve your freedom? (Take away freedom to preserve freedom?)
We can't interogate know hostiles to provide life saving information
-Uh, genius, we already interrogate! It's torture that people are rallying against. Torture never gives us valuable information, nor is it a reliable method to gather intel. Think about it a "suspected enemy combatant" (And that's who's at Gitmo, suspected terrorists, we don't know if they are or not.) would say anything to get out of being tortured, even if it was a lie. Our country does not torture, at least that's the official stance, our enemies do torture.
So my question to you is this: Are you willing to allow the reputation of our country to be dragged into the dirt, to go against our own principles, to protect our freedom?
Are you willing to go against everything our country stands for, in order to protect everything our country stands for?

I will fight for freedom, I am not willing to give up any "rights" for it though because then you have lost your freedom. But then again I realize the blessing that it is and I am a conservative and a combat Veteran.

You listen to our President too much. He has obviously convinced you and many like you that in order to keep our freedoms, we need to give some of them up. I can only presume it is because of his view on terrorism you believe we in America need to give up something in order to protect ourselves, nothing could be further from the truth. Torturing people does not give us accurate information. Spying on Americans with the use of the Patriot Act is sick, disregarding the Constitution doesn't help anyone and our borders are still not secure after complete control of our government for the past six years. I want to puke when I read questions like yours. You completely disregard the responsibility the republicans play and blame it on the liberals who have no control of anything for at least eleven years for the problems in our country. It's people like you who are willing to trample all over our freedoms while pointing fingers at whoever disagrees. You should be ashamed.

Youre right. Paper slippers at the airport and mothers having to dump their babies' milk before they get on a plane makes MUCH more sense. Thank GAWD airport security stopped THIS dangerous terrorist:
http://wjz.com/homepage/topstories_story_177203957.html
And of course, we can TRUST the guys who can listen to our calls to ONLY listen in on "terrorists" conversations, right?

Im willing to give up fear. What are you willing to give up for your so-called security?
For 6 years, Republicans were Kings of Capitol Hill, you needed no bipartisan support, you could do whatever your greedy little hearts desired. And what did they do?
Did they secure the borders? I live in Arizona and I promise you they have NOT
Did they "fix" Social Security? Do I have to tell you what you already know?
Did they raise soldiers' pay? No they actually cut it TWICE, before giving them a "raise" which doesn't get it to back to where they started, before Bush came into office.
Do they support veterans? Not after cutting $3 Billion from The VAs budget.
How about that "Balanced Budget" Amendment they were so keen on when Clinton was in office?
The Marriage Amendment? The No Flag Burning Amendment? How about Ethical Practices in Congress? That was a HUGE issue when Repubicans introduced Newt Gingrich's "Contract With America". Here's a LINK to that "Contract", maybe you can tell ME how many things Republicans accomplished from that list.
http://www.house.gov/house/Contract/CONTRACT.html
Why did a Republican controlled Congress cut a $650 million appropriation to scan cargo entering US seaports?
Why hasn't Bush implemented any of the 42 recommendations of the 9/11 Commission?
Why did that same commission have to get a court order to get Bush to release relevent documents?
Why isn't Osama bin Laden in US Custody?
Do you kinda see why you don't have a whole lot of credibility to be whining about security NOW? And are you seriously complaining because we would prefer you don't TORTURE human beings for any reason, including interrogation? It produces worthless information anyway. You beat on someone long enough, they'll admit to assassinating Kennedy. The only reason to torture, is to show we are no better than the animals we're fighting. We're AMERICANS. We're MUCH better than that.

Ahhh Mr. Perfect. If I read your rhetoric properly, you are suggesting it makes sense to give up freedom for freedom.
That's an interesting bargain.
I will give up nothing for your right to undermine my freedom.
I have already given years of service to my country.
I wonder if you have.
